The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Displeasure Regarding Sizing Changes

Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.

The popular resale platform has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.

Digital Channels Response

Many shoppers and sellers are posting online claiming that product pages now present a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.

Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.

The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.

Measurement Approach Updates

Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

User Stories

One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.

"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she explained.

Manual Updates

Another shopper, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.

Platform Context

The platform boasts over 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.

It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options after backlash from users.
