Vince Zampella, the mind behind the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in the state of California he was 55 years old.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The celebrated video game developer passed away following his car crashed and caught fire on a motorway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a devastating loss, and we stand with Vince's loved ones, those closest to him, and all those touched by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
