Supporters Urge Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are calling for that a man who breached a barrier and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented a further message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised guards at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-part version of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, securing a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
