Six Individuals Detained Following €12M Armed Raid on Precious Metals Facility in the French Republic

A group of six individuals equipped with military-grade weapons employed explosives to force entry into a gold refining laboratory located in the city of Lyon, causing light wounds to five employees during what appears to be the most recent prominent daytime heist to hit the country.

The audacious robbery occurred on Thursday afternoon, with officers swiftly apprehending the suspected perpetrators and recovering the stolen goods assessed at around €12 million (10.5 million pounds), as stated by authorities.

Five employees of the gold refining company were slightly hurt from the blast, and three employees were transported to hospital for assessment, the regional prefecture announced. A total of twenty-eight staff were at the location when the thieves struck.

The suspects, thought to be seasoned offenders, were detained soon afterwards in the nearby town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.

A female participant who took part in the raid was also apprehended, according to law enforcement.

“Six people who employed explosive devices in a raid against a metals processing plant in Lyon were arrested at the scene,” France's security official stated online, praising officers for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

Assault rifles, handguns and explosives were recovered as well.

The raid happened as law enforcement in France on that Thursday detained five further people, including a primary suspect, in connection with the recent audacious Louvre museum robbery.

Many investigative personnel have been pursuing four perpetrators who utilized a lorry with a hydraulic lift and cutting gear to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the prestigious institution on 19 October, fleeing with precious items estimated to be worth €88M.

In a separate high-profile case, thieves last month entered illegally the Natural History Museum in Paris, stealing gold samples worth over $1 million. A young Chinese female was arrested earlier this month in Barcelona in relation to the burglary, officials confirmed.

The sequence of heists has raised concerns in France regarding insufficient protection at museums and various establishments housing valuable items.
