Fighters laugh as they travel on the back of a pick-up truck, hurrying past a series of nine dead bodies and moving towards the setting African evening sky.

"Look at all this accomplishment. See this mass destruction," a fighter shouts.

The individual smiles as he points the recording device on himself and his associate combatants, their RSF insignia visible: "They are all going to die like this."

The combatants are exulting in a massacre that aid workers suspect killed over 2,000 people in the African city of al-Fashir in recent weeks.

An Urban Center Isolated from the Outside

Having held the urban area under blockade for approximately an extended period, from the summer the militia proceeded to consolidate its position and blockade the surviving residents.

Satellite images demonstrate that troops began to build a enormous sand wall - a built-up sand barrier - encircling the edges of the city, closing entry points and blocking aid.

While the blockade escalated, 78 individuals were slain in an paramilitary strike on a religious building on 19 September, while the UN reported dozens further were slain in drone and heavy weapon attacks on a refugee settlement in fall.

RSF Leaders Try to Conduct Reputation Management

Following the events that ensued from the massacre, militia leader conceded that his fighters had perpetrated "violations" and stated the events would be examined.

Updates depicting its militiamen distributing supplies to residents were disseminated by several individuals, while the paramilitary's media office shared several recordings allegedly to show the humane treatment of military captives.

Despite the digital campaign being employed by the militia, their activities in al-Fashir have sparked international anger.
