Members of an Italian clan of burglars who took more than £1.2 million valued of goods, among them from former Newcastle United forward Isak, have been mandated to return only £1 per person.

Brothers Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo Nikolov, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her child Charlie travelled to the northeastern of the UK to burgle multiple homes in spring 2024.

The group of four were imprisoned for from six and 10 years in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime proceeding at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela Jovanovic and the brothers Nikolov were instructed to pay back £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must hand over £1,135.

Details of the Burglaries

The judge was told the group arrived by boat in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2024 and employed a RV as their "headquarters", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service rest stops while using a separate vehicle to search for targets and carry out burglaries.

On 31 March they stole over one million pounds of items including high-end fashion, handbags, jewelry and a honor from a residence on a street in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the residents were on holiday.

The next evening, the crew broke into a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, and took luxury bags, jewellery and footwear valued at over one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out Newcastle United's facility for two days, they then struck at the residence of Sweden striker Alexander Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on 4 April, stealing £10,000 in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewellery and the striker's £120,000 Audi RS6.

The gang, who were portrayed by prosecutors as experienced itinerant burglars, wore hand coverings and face coverings, turned their mobile devices off as they neared their targets and attached a number plate, which had been taken from a garage in a town, on to their car with rubber straps.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham area on 13 April.

Court Hearings and Sentencing

Valentino had denied conspiracy to burglary but was found guilty by jurors, while his family members had all submitted admissions to the identical accusation.

At the proceeds of crime session, prosecutor the prosecution said each of the defendants had benefited from their offenses to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the victims said they had lost.

But Charlie was the only one found to have any funds that could be "realised", namely over a thousand pounds which had previously been confiscated by police, the judge was informed, with two weeks to be served in prison if he failed to pay.

The remaining members had no money or property so were ordered to make a nominal fee of £1 per person, with seven days in incarceration the consequence if the sum was not paid.

Judge Spragg said if they were discovered with property in the coming years, "such as driving around Italy in a sports car or owning a home", prosecutors could seek new proceedings to "recover the sum outstanding".
