Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
