A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence On Resellers
Marking the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with exclusive items. Enthusiasts will find products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the institution's aesthetic. For collectors, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. The store is scheduled both the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.
Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited volume packed with stunning illustrations depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. It's essentially is what a Pokémon Professor could produce once adventurers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched if the Galapagos teemed with Pidgeys rather than finches. A key appeal stems from the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.
What Makes This Special Card Different
It is common to issue to release cards celebrating big events or crossover partnerships. A lot of these collector items often feature the iconic mouse Pokémon who serves as the series face. What distinguishes this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger size. While exact measurements were not immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be strictly limited, and fans able to get just one card per purchase.
Curbing Speculator Interest
According to an official statement, some of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the museum walls. But, broader availability is slated for specific stores within the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans will not be able to purchase the card through the official web shop. Although reseller interest is a given, it appears they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to Chicago in the coming months.
"Every penny of sales from the museum store and its online store, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to conducting studies to discover answers to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
